Fred Webster
1911 - 1998
Fred Webster was born in Fayette County, Alabama and never moved from the state. In 1976, Webster retired leaving a career as a school teacher and later a principal at a local high school. Webster carved in basswood and painted his figures. He carved his favorite biblical scenes including Jonah and the Whale, Adam and Eve, and scenes of people handling snakes. Robert Cargo introduced his art early in Webster’s career and his affordable carvings are available through dealers, collectors, and a number of museums including the Birmingham Museum of Art.
